Steelers LB James Harrison knocked two Browns players out of the game last week and has been at the forefront of the NFL's effort this week to take vicious hits out of the game.
After the game, Harrison had some bizarre words saying, "A hit like that geeks you up -- it geeks everybody up -- especially when you find out that the guy is not really hurt -- he's just sleeping." He also said it would be a "travesty" if he were fined.
Now that the "travesty" has come, and Harrison has been fined $75,000, he might just quit. As in...retire.
"I'm going to sit down and have a serious conversation with my coach [Wednesday] and see if I can actually play by NFL rules and still be effective," Harrison told Tony Bruno of FOX Sports Radio. "If not, I may have to give up playing football. . . . I really truly hope it's something that can be done. But the way that things were being explained to me [Tuesday] and the reasoning for it, I don't feel I can continue to play and be effective and, like I say, not have to worry about injuring someone else or risking injury to myself."
Yeah because the Steelers would really be hurting without him. There's no way they could sign a no-named undrafted free agent -- perhaps out of Kent State -- to replace Harrison.
Brandon Meriweather, fined $50,000 this week, did it the right way. He talked with an outspoken critic of the big hits we've been seeing lately, Rodney Harrison, and said he would change his game in order to avoid a vicious hit like the one he laid on Todd Heap over the weekend.
Harrison would probably be better off not talking about this at all. His comments since the hits have just dug the whole deeper for him and made him look even more clueless.
