Texas safety Christian Scott is in legal trouble after being arrested for "assault with bodily harm" on Monday. Scott was detained at about 1 p.m., and head coach Mack Brown acted fast when handing down his own punishment. A short time after word of Scott's arrest broke, Brown suspended the senior defensive back indefinitely as he waits for the legal proceedings to play out.
Mack Brown expressed disappointment in Scott's arrest while suspending him and left the terms of his punishment open with the football season less than a month away.
"We’re aware of the situation with Christian Scott and disappointed any time one of our players is accused of wrongdoing," said head coach Mack Brown. "We’ve talked to Christian and his family, and he has been suspended from all activities with our football team. Following the completion of the legal process, we will do what’s best for the university, Christian and the team."
Scott was expected to compete for the starting job at safety in fall camp after starting 10 games in 2010.
