Injuries and Jameer Nelson are nothing new, so you can’t blame Magic fans for want to get as many opinions on Nelson’s knee injury as possible.
Third Quarter Collapse, SB Nation’s Magic blog, comes through and asks renown injury expert Will Carroll about Nelson’s situation. Carroll said he is surprised by the timetable the Magic provided for Nelson’s recovery (4-6 weeks), saying meniscus injuries usually heal faster than that.
I’m a bit surprised they have Nelson listed as a 4-6 week recovery. I’d think this is more like 4 on the outside … unless Nelson has a history of knee injuries. I know he had the shoulder problem, but not knees, but he is a basketball player. The worry is that down the line, he’ll miss that cartilage and need microfracture or knee replacement (if he’s done with hoops)
As a Wizards fan, I’m well aware of torn meniscus injuries getting worse over time — Gilbert Arenas had a torn meniscus initially and he eventually needed microfracture surgery — so if I’m the Orlando Magic, I stay as cautious with this injury as possible. The Magic have plenty of talent besides Nelson on the roster and just blew out a good Oklahoma City Thunder team. Make sure Nelson is 100 percent before bringing him back.
