Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of injuries and medical suspensions for the mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters who participated in UFC 175, which took place last Saturday night (July 5, 2014) inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
And there are a few hefty sentences.
Chief among them, of course, is women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who popped a cyst on her knuckle beating the hell out of Alexis Davis for all of just 16 seconds. The hand injury, which required nine stitches to close (see pic here), is in addition to a knee issue that will require minor surgery to repair.
Of course, that means "Rowdy" will not be making any quick turnarounds (like this), especially if she remains on the shelf until early 2015.
Middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, could also join Rousey on the long layoff list thanks to a menagerie of medical problems that cropped up after his "Fight of the Night" with Lyoto Machida (watch video highlights here), including perhaps several pre-existing conditions that compelled "All American" to call his camp for this fight among his "worst ever."
Weidman fooled most fight fans after that gritty performance.
Unsurprisingly, Stefan Struve has been pegged for a follow up visit with his cardiologist after his backstage episode (read scary details here) that forced the last-minute cancelation of his Heavyweight match against Matt Mitrione. And Uriah Hall? Oh, DISGUSTING Uriah Hall.
That's not all.
Here is the full list of UFC 175 medical suspensions:
- Chris Weidman: Suspended until Jan. 2 , 2015, because of possible left jaw, right elbow, right ribs and right ankle injuries (need x-rays) unless an orthopedic doctor clears him to return sooner. Minimum suspension (and no contest) until Aug. 20, 2014, and no contact until Aug. 5, 2014.

- Alexis Davis: Suspended until July 27, 2014, and no contact until July 20, 2014, because of knockout.
- Matt Mitrione: Must have a CT scan of his chest in six months (due Dec. 16, 2014).

- George Roop: Suspended until Aug. 20, 2014, and no contact until Aug. 5, 2014.
- Luke Zachrich: Suspended until Jan. 2 , 2015, because of possible left hand injury (need x-rays) unless an orthopedic doctor clears him to return sooner. Minimum suspension (and no contest) until Aug. 20, 2014, and no contact until Aug. 5, 2014, because of a right eye laceration.
- Kevin Casey: Suspended until Jan. 2 , 2015, because of a possible left elbow injury (need x-rays) unless an orthopedic doctor clears him to return sooner.
- William Bush: Suspended until Sept. 4, 2014, and no contact until Aug. 20, 2014.
Again, just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
