The Seattle Seahawks added defensive tackle Ryan Sims on Sunday, according to the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora. This additional defensive tackle comes after the team re-signed Brandon Mebane on Friday, but this is a depth signing.
Sims was, once upon a time, the sixth overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft with a bright future ahead of him while playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. After playing just six games as a rookie, Sims had his best year in 2003 when he started all 16 games and sacked the quarterback three times. By 2007, Sims was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a reserve. Though he started all 16 games in 2009, Sims was cut after six games in 2010.
Sims was drafted into the UFL back in May, but he'll give it a go with the Seahawks. Field Gulls, our Seahawks blog, doesn't think this signing will have much of an impact.
