The San Francisco 49ers suddenly find themselves without an experienced center as free agent David Baas has reportedly agreed to terms with the New York Giants. The Giants are expected to release Shaun O'Hara on Thursday, leaving them with a hole in the middle of their offensive line. Baas will slide right in as the Giants starting center. The signing won't become official until Friday at 6:00 p.m. (ET).
The Giants decision to cut Shaun O'Hara could end up benefiting the 49ers as they look to fill their new hole at center. They drafted undersized tackles Daniel Kilgore and Michael Person in hopes of moving one or both further inside, but they aren't expected to compete for a starting role right away. Adam Snyder took some snaps during the 49ers players-only practices during the lockout. Additionally the team may decided inside swing-man Tony Wragge is worth bringing back for one more year.
