Green Bay Packers LB Nick Barnett wrote on Twitter early Tuesday morning that he was headed to the Packers facility and that meeting "should be interesting." According to later tweets sent out by Barnett, it sure sounds like that meeting resulted in his release.
Just met with Ted, Thanks for the great 8 years. Very blessed 2 be apart of such a great tradition and great fans.. Happy I was able to be here for the great xlv run... I will always keep a Special place in my heart for this team and city..
Ted is our course Ted Thompson, Packers GM. Teams can't make these releases official until Thursday but several teams have been informing players of their release including, apparently, Barnett and the Packers.
Barnett has played all eight seasons in the NFL with the Packers. He finished the Packers Super Bowl run on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending wrist injury in Week 4. It was the second time in three seasons that he's ended the season on IR.
There will definitely be interest in Barnett on the open market. He still has talent and some team out there will look past the injuries over the last couple of years and find a spot for him.
