The Philadelphia Phillies just can't seem to get all the way over their injury problems. They're doing better now than they were earlier on, but on Thursday, they've been delivered just their latest bit of bad news. Jim Salisbury:
Contreras officially on DL. Juan perez called up
Contreras will out four to six weeks, Phils say.
Reliever Jose Contreras came up with a forearm strain over the weekend, and won't be good to go now for at least a month. This is Contreras' second visit to the disabled list on the season, as earlier he missed time with an elbow injury. He threw a total of just six innings between DL stints, albeit over the span of four weeks.
With Ryan Madson excelling as the closer and Antonio Bastardo pitching his ass off, the Phillies' bullpen isn't in desperate need of help, but given the unreliability and injury problems of Contreras and Brad Lidge, one can expect the front office to poke around for reinforcements. Insurance is never a bad idea for a probable playoff team to have.
Juan Perez is a 32-year-old lefty with 41 strikeouts and 21 walks this season with triple-A Lehigh Valley.
