Chicago White Sox third baseman Mark Teahen left last Wednesday’s game with pain in his right side, and though he described the pain as minor, he hasn’t played since the injury. The White Sox opted for the extra roster spot over the possibility that Teahan would improve with rest over the next week, putting him on the disabled list Tuesday and calling up former can’t-miss Angels prospect Dallas McPherson.
While Teahen has been out, struggling rookie Brent Morel and ageless wonder Omar Vizquel have been getting the bulk of the innings at third base. Morel is hitting .226/.234/.280 without a walk over 93 at-bats, while the 44-year-old Vizquel is hitting .349/.370/.419 in 43 at-bats, with one stolen base, three doubles and 132 different loud jackets at home.
Teahen wasn't doing so hot himself, so the White Sox might be tempted to take a close look at McPherson, a career .279/.356/.599 hitter in triple-A.
