The United States Women's Soccer Team will play Mexico in their final World Cup warm-up match at Red Bull Arena on June 5. After the match, the USWNT will go to Austria to begin training for the 2011 Women's World Cup, which begins on June 28 with a match against North Korea.
Prior to the match against Mexico, Kristine Lilly will be honored for her prolific career by U.S. Soccer and the USWNT. Lilly retired in January after a career that spanned 23 years, featured trips to five World Cups and included a record 352 international appearances. She also scored 130 career goals, second only to Mia Hamm.
This will be the first time the two teams will face since Mexico upset the USWNT in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying tournament. That semifinals loss forced the U.S. to win the third-place match and then beat Italy in a home-and-home qualifying tie.
