Sevilla forward Frederic Kanoute is facing a three-week spell on the sidelines thanks to a torn thigh muscle sustained during his side's 3-1 victory over Real Zaragoza. Kanoute, now 33, has been with Sevilla since 2005 after spells with Lyon, West Ham United, and Tottenham Hotspur, but his appearance tally has been steadily dropping as age catches up with him, and this injury certainly won't help.
It won't do Sevilla much good either - he's third on the scoring charts behind Alvaro Negredo and Luis Fabiano, and with Fabiano out with a knee injury Kanoute was having to do much of the heavy lifting for a side attempting to maintain their challenge for a Europa League slot next season. With Kanoute and Fabiano both due to return at the end of the month, it's not entirely clear whether Sevilla will drop to a single-striker formation for the rest of April or if they're just going to dredge up a spare forward from somewhere.
