Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Colorado Rockies have traded Miguel Olivo to the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later. Olivo sounds disappointed that he will no longer be with the Colorado Rockies:
"I am little disappointed. I was looking forward to playing in Colorado again. I love my teammates and the fans and Denver were great. Look for me next year. I am ready to play now," Olivo told The Denver Post.
Olivo hit .269/.315/.449 for the season, but it was a tale of two seasons for Olivo. In the first half of the season, Olivo played like an All-Star, hitting .325/.377/.548 with 11 homers. He fell off significantly after the All-Star Break by having a batting average below the Mendoza line at .193. He also played a game this season while passing a kidney stone.
Chris Iannetta is assumed to be the starting catcher at this point, but the Rockies could look for other options. The Anaheim Angels' Mike Napoli is a candidate for the Rockies to explore.
With money saved and a player coming back to the Rockies, this trade is a great win for the team.
