The Nationals continued their busy Friday afternoon twirling in the Adam Dunn rumor mill with an actual trade, sending shortstop Cristian Guzman to the Rangers in exchange for prospects.
Bill Ladson first reported the deal on MLB.com, via Guzman's agent.
The move for Texas is likely in response to them placing Ian Kinsler on the 15-day DL on Thursday, especially since Guzman can play both short and second base.
Guzman is hitting .282/.327/.361 in 89 games (played at shortstop, second base and the outfield), and is in the final season of his two-year, $16 million extension. It is still unclear if the Nats would be picking up any of his salary.
