Less than 48 hours before free agency begins, the rights of several soon-to-be free agents are on the move.
The biggest prize among them is goaltender Dan Ellis, who moves from Nashville to Montreal along with young center Dustin Boyd and future considerations. Nashville gains future considerations as well, plus the rights to forward Sergei Kostitsyn, who will become a free agent on Thursday at noon. Boyd is a restricted free agent.
The Habs will presumably try to sign Ellis to become the backup goaltender to Carey Price, filling a void left by the trade of Jaroslav Halak a few weeks back. Whether that happens remains to be seen, as many other soon-to-be free agents seem eager to test the market this year.
