On Saturday afternoon, the Mariners and Angels were locked in a ten-inning pitcher's duel. Then the Angels loaded the bases. First baseman Kendry Morales stepped to the plate, and mashed a game-winning, walk-off grand slam.
During the celebration at home plate, however, Morales sustained an injury to his ankle. From our Angels blog, Halos Heaven:
In extra innings, Kendry Morales is tackled at home plate by celebrating teammates after hitting a walk-off Grand Slam and his knee buckles. The preliminary report is ankle sprain.
As SB Nation's own Jeff Sullivan pointed out, baseball finally has its own Martin Gramatica.
All jokes aside, Morales has had a good 2010 so far, having belted ten home runs and chalked up 35 RBI. We'll update with more on Morales' condition when it becomes available. In the meantime, for all things Angels, check in with Halos Heaven.
Update: apparently, Morales was carted off the field. Not good.
Double update: Jon Heyman is reporting that Morales suffered a broken ankle.
