The Atlanta Braves have been without starting shortstop Yunel Escobar since he injured his groin on April 29th. The hope was that he'd only need a few days off, but now it appears the team will place him on the disabled list:
The Braves have not announced an official roster decision but the pieces are in place for shortstop Yunel Escobar to go on the disabled list Tuesday with a strained groin muscle.
Shortstop Luis Bolivar was called up from Class AA Mississippi to replace Brandon Hicks on the Class AAA Gwinnett roster and started at shortstop for Gwinnett on Monday night.
Escobar's been a disappointment in the early going, with a .215 average and zero home runs. Still, he has a productive track record, which makes him a bit of a loss. In his place, Omar Infante will the bulk of the playing time, but the 24 year old Hicks will also get some action. Hicks has gotten off to a rough start in AAA, while Infante batting .333.
