Apparently Dana White and the UFC brass don't think like the rest of the MMA world. FiveOuncesOfPain.com is reporting that James "Lights Out" Toney has officially signed with the UFC:
FiveOuncesofPain.com has been informed through sources close to the situation that James Toney has recently been signed to a multi-fight contract with the UFC.
The story has since been confirmed by Dana White.
So it appears to indeed be factual. And judging by the initial hysteria this signing is creating in the MMA groundswell, Mr. White has a few less fans now than he did before this news broke.
If you've followed this story at all, you'll remember that Toney has literally stalked Dana for the last couple months trying to force this very issue. And strangely enough, D.W. never seemed to mind, often playing along with Toney and his outrageous remarks.
Now we know why. Maybe the UFC is doing this to prove a point to Toney and other boxers about the legitimacy of MMA. Maybe not.
But, I guess the folks at Zuffa have never heard of the expression "cutting off your nose to spite your face."
There is not yet word on when and against who Toney will make his Octagon debut.
