Cautiousness is the name of the game around the country these days and it's also the word on the mind of Rockies, fans. By all accounts Colorado should be able to hold on to the Wild Card in the N.L., but until they've actually cliched, the Braves, Giants and Marlins are still too close for comfort. Rockies' blog Purple Row is already throwing out the possibility as some sort of karmic pre-emptive strike.
If the Braves really are good enough to pull off the kind of rare, once in a lifetime type of run (which thanks to a team we're all familiar with, we've already seen once in our lifetime) needed to overtake the Rockies and get to the playoffs this year, more power to them. We've got to chalk that up to the random cruel twists of fate, and fretting over it is a bout equal to fretting over a giant doomsday meteor colliding with the earth. You can't really prepare for it, you can't really send Bruce Willis out with some nukes to stop it, you're better off worrying about a pack of organized bears jumping out and eating you while you go jogging.
The Braves have the night off, as do the Marlins, who are 4 games and 4.5 games back, respectively. The Rockies and the Giants (4 games back) are on the docket this evening. If Colorado loses and San Fran wins, the gates to disaster open just a little wider. Rockies' fans will at least be ready to deal with it, if it comes to be.
