If Philadelphia Eagles QB Kevin Kolb is your fantasy starter, you may want to see who your backup plays this week or check the waiver wire to see if Michael Vick is available. Kolb suffered a concussion after being sacked by Clay Matthews in the second quarter of the Eagles season opener Sunday. He passed some memory tests on the sideline and was allowed back in the game for a series, but after “not seeing things clearly” on the final drive before the half he was taken out of the game for good.
League rules mandate that a player diagnosed with a concussion must take three team administered tests during the week until they pass, at which point they must be cleared by an independent 3rd party physician. Kolb took the first of his three tests this morning and did not pass.
Kolb’s failure to pass the test puts his availability for this weekend’s game against the Detroit Lions in serious doubt. It is still possible for him to play if he passes a test on Wednesday, but in all likelihood the team will play it safe with their young QB. Look for Michael Vick to get the start this weekend, and given that it’s against the Lions he’s probably not a bad play.
