Switzerland and Honduras played to an even, 0-0 draw on Friday, leaving Switzerland out of the World Cup.
Switzerland would have advanced to the knockout stage of the competition with a two goal win, but Honduras looked just as likely to get a counter attack goal in Friday’s match, playing the Swiss to a scoreless draw that earned the Catarachos their only point of World Cup 2010.
Switzerland held 63 percent of the match’s possession and recorded five of the six shots on goal, but Honduras had nearly as many scoring chances, with poor finishing on counter attacks plaguing their chances for an opening goal.
Switzerland, unaccustomed to pressing the action, never could break down Honduras and end the tournament failing to score a goal after Gelson Fernandes’s tally that beat Spain.
