The opening bout of Strikeforce: Los Angeles featured K.J. Noons taking on Conor Heun in a 160 pound bout.
Early in the first round Noons was dominating the stand-up using his very solid technical boxing. However, Heun would manage to get a takedown and take the former Elite XC champion's back and even mount him while doing damage. It appeared that Heun had won the round but with five seconds left in the round Noons dropped him with a hook.
The second and third round were almost identical with Noons landing jabs and hooks over and over while Heun threw wild arm punches and occasionally landed. It was clear that Noons had taken over the fight and Heun's bloodied face was proof of the damage Noons was doing.
In the end SB Nation scored the bout 30-27 for Noons. Shockingly one of the judges managed to see all three rounds for Heun giving him a 30-27 nod. The other two judges turned in 29-28 scorecards for Noons, giving the obvious winner a split decision victory in his first Strikeforce bout.
